Ans: To take an appointment for a new patient on ORS (Online Registration System) (ors.gov.in), the patient needs to visit the ORS website and click on the “Book Appointment” option. After selecting the state, hospital, and the required department/OPD, the available doctors and appointment slots are displayed. The patient then selects a suitable date and time and proceeds by choosing the “New Patient” option. Basic details such as name, age or date of birth, gender, mobile number, and address are required to be entered, and the patient may optionally link an ABHA ID for faster registration. An OTP is sent to the registered mobile number for verification, and upon successful validation, the appointment is confirmed. The OPD appointment slip is generated, which can be downloaded or printed and presented at the hospital on the day of visit..
Ans: ABHA ensures accurate patient identification, avoiding duplicate UHIDs and record mismatches, and supports seamless interoperability between ORS and hospital systems like eHospital. From a patient’s perspective, it improves continuity of care, while from a hospital’s perspective, it reduces registration load and improves data quality. Overall, providing ABHA in ORS results in faster service delivery, better record management, and improved patient experience under the ABDM ecosystem.
